The Sexton Wedding

After their March engagement, wedding planning for Annie and Curry was in full swing! I was beyond thrilled that they trusted Along Came Abby with their planning because Annie’s sister, Ellen, was one of my first brides as a fulltime wedding planner! Fun fact, Annie and Curry actually met at Ellen’s engagement party nearly four years prior to getting engaged themselves! Their photographer, Emma York, was able to capture their romantic wedding day flawlessly. Imagine the perfect Kansas day (add a little wind), a live band, a venue overlooking a dreamy scenery and a donut wall! Yes, you read that right, a DONUT WALL! April 27th, 2019 was not only the perfect day for a wedding, but the day that Annie and Curry officially became the Sexton’s!

Couple Questions!

Q. What was your favorite design detail of your reception?
Definitely the backdrop of our head table! The venue we booked for our wedding was brand new, so we didn't have a great idea of what the room would look like until a few weeks before the wedding! We knew we had to get a little creative to keep flashes on the windows from interfering with photos, and Abby and her team did an amazing job taking my very vague idea and turning it into something much more extraordinary than I could have ever imagined! The lights and flowers cascading down our backdrop really set the romantic vibe I was hoping for, for our reception.

Q. How did you know your dress was ‘the one’?

It sounds so silly-- It was just a feeling! I knew I wanted something with a more full skirt, and I had seen a dress in the window with a similar silhouette about a year prior. I showed my amazing stylist at Celebrations of the Heart the picture of the first dress I had seen in their window, and after listening to me describe what I was envisioning for my wedding dress and the mood I was wanting for our wedding, she pulled the first dress I liked, along with a handful of other dresses in many other styles, as well as the dress I ended up choosing. Within seconds of her showing me the dress I knew it was going to be tough for me to not choose it! After trying on all the other dresses she pulled for me she finally let me try it on and I instantly felt like dancing. I loved how the skirt twirled, and the bow on the sash, and all the other details that I feel made my dress special!

Q. How would you describe your wedding day?
It was truly the best day of our lives so far! I got to spend the whole morning with my best girls, and get all dolled up to start my life with my best friend! I have never felt as overwhelmed with love as I did when we were at our reception and it hit me that all of our favorite people-- who have each played such important roles in shaping who we are--were in one room together, celebrating the beginning of this next chapter in our lives. There is something truly magical about celebrating your wedding day. There is nothing like it.

Q. What was your favorite part of the day vs. Curry’s?

I think we both had too many favorite parts to really pick one thing! Curry's favorite part of our reception was having a live band! Lost Wax was AMAZING and having a live band really kept the party going for the entire evening. People were constantly moving around, dancing, and talking, it was a blast! It was also cool that our first dance song was a little more unique because the band learned it for us instead of us playing the track. My favorite part was probably having Chipotle for dinner. :) I am borderline obsessed with Chipotle, and eat it at least once a week so I don't think anyone was surprised that this was our dinner of choice, but it was a highlight for sure! I just told Curry what I picked as my favorite part of the day, and he said "That's pretty on brand for you." We also ate Chipotle to celebrate our 1st anniversary a few months ago during quarantine, so it was kind of funny we could say we were eating our wedding meal one year later!

Q. What is one piece of advice you’d give to a newly engaged bride planning her wedding?

Call Along Came Abby? ;) So corny, but so true! Abby and I met when she just started her wedding planning business, and my sister hired her for her wedding so I saw first hand what an amazing job Abby does making the day run smoothly for everyone, but especially the bride. Since then, I am very lucky to have Abby as a close friend and she was one of the first people I called when Curry and I got engaged! Aside from being friends, I just knew that she would do everything in her power to make my wedding day perfect, and she did! Her attention to detail and dedication to her brides is what makes Abby truly amazing at what she does. There are too many details of our wedding day that I don't think I even told Abby what I was wanting, and she was somehow able to take my vague descriptions and illusions of "romantic" vibes and turned it into my perfect reception. Even with gusty winds and having to make "game day decisions" such as to move parts of our reception from outdoors to indoors, Abby gave me the ability to enjoy my wedding day and did not let me worry about anything that was going on behind the scenes because I knew everything was taken care of.
